About the company
Relocalize is reimagining the food supply chain. Our mission is to decarbonize and decentralize food production by deploying automated, hyperlocal micro-factories that cut food waste, eliminate trucking, and slash CO2 emissions. We are a venture-backed clean-tech startup scaling breakthrough automation technology with global impact. By co-locating production and packaging at distribution centers, we aim to make supply chains cleaner, faster, and more resilient.
What You’ll Do
Reporting directly to the Senior Design Manager, our Engineering Team will play a critical role in delivering on our mission to create autonomous food and beverage microfactories. You will own product development and R&D activities for your area of expertise. Your mission will be to operate, learn, iterate, and test our platform. You will be on-site working with our technicians to operate the system, learn from it and then define the next iteration of the system to test in our lab. Your success in solving the problems and lessons learned from operating the system will drive our progress towards autonomous food & beverage microfactories.
You might be an experienced engineer looking for a purpose-based career change or a young professional seeking challenge, growth and opportunity. Regardless of your experience, if hands-on problem solving and product development excite you, we want to talk to you!
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the leadership and product teams to align on and achieve company targets
- You will occasionally be required to travel and support our Relo factories in the USA and Canada. Based on your learnings and observations, you will design improvements, test them in our Canadian lab, and integrate them into the product structure once they are fully developed.
- In addition to the above, you will be listening to what the customer and market want, researching the latest in automation and Machine learning technologies and incorporating them in our product development roadmap.
What You Bring to the Team (Qualifications)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Engineering, or a related technical field with equivalent practical experience.
- Experience: 3+ years of direct, relevant experience in engineering, automation, and industrial robotics integration.
- Mobility: Willing and able to travel up to one week per month within Canada and the USA.
Technical Expertise
- Mechanical & Structural Design: Advanced mechanical design experience using modern CAD modeling tools (Onshape experience is a major asset). Experience in structural steel design is highly desirable.
- Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex, multidisciplinary problems, including thermal, structural, and kinematic challenges.
- Robotics: Hands-on experience designing, building, and deploying automated systems. Experience with ABB, KUKA, FANUC, or other leading industrial robotics systems is an asset (with major bonus points for strong ABB RobotStudio simulation skills).
Mindset & Approach
- The "Equally Comfortable with a Laptop or a Wrench" Mentality: You are data-driven, love building and fixing things, and aren't afraid to try new things.
- True Ownership: You aren’t just a CAD designer or a robotics specialist; you are the team member who does whatever it takes to keep the factory running. Whether that means re-teaching a robot target, diagnosing a mechanical failure, or troubleshooting an unfamiliar third-party system, you get production back online and use those lessons to improve the next design.
- Execution & Drive: You possess an entrepreneurial mindset and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. You demonstrate excellent time management, sharp attention to detail, and a strong commitment to meeting deadlines.
