Technical Core: Rockwell Allen-Bradley PLC/HMI, ABB Robotics, Electromechanical Systems
About the Role
As Relocalize's FSE, you'll be "the eyes and hands" on the ground, bridging the company's core engineering team in Montreal and its active physical deployment in Florida. Working alongside a local, multi-disciplinary team, you'll be the vital link ensuring the RELO platform operates at peak efficiency, handling everything from routine maintenance to critical software and mechanical upgrades.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation & Software Upgrades: Navigate, troubleshoot, and modify PLC logic as directed to deploy software upgrades, and tune parameters to optimize machine performance.
- Robotic Integration: Maintain, calibrate, and program industrial robots to ensure smooth automated extraction and packaging cycles.
- Mechanical Adjustments & Retrofits: Diagnose and repair mechanical, pneumatic, and vacuum systems, and execute physical hardware upgrades and part replacements.
- Cross-Border Collaboration: Act as the technical eyes and hands for the remote engineering team in Montreal, providing clear, real-time diagnostic feedback from the Florida site.
- Continuous Improvement: Document on-site technical anomalies, log bugs, and collaborate with the engineering team to feed operational data back into the next-generation design pipeline.
Technical Requirements
1. Automation & Control Systems
- PLC Programming: Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley platforms, with the ability to troubleshoot and modify code using Studio 5000 Logix Designer.
- HMI & Networks: Experience updating and troubleshooting operator interfaces (FactoryTalk View) and industrial networks.
- Instrumentation: Ability to calibrate and test digital/analog sensors, proximity switches, encoders, and pressure transducers.
2. Industrial Robotics & Motion
- ABB Robotics: Proficiency operating and troubleshooting ABB industrial robotic arms.
- Software Tools: Familiarity with ABB RobotStudio and a basic to intermediate understanding of the RAPID programming language.
- Motion Control: Experience troubleshooting Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and servo motors.
3. Mechanical & Hardware
- Fluid Power & Pneumatics: Practical knowledge of pneumatic systems, valves, manifolds, cylinders, and vacuum systems.
- Schematics: Advanced proficiency reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics, P&ID diagrams, and mechanical blueprints.
Experience Profiles: Choose Your Pathway
Relocalize welcomes diverse technical backgrounds and is actively looking for candidates who fit either of the following tracks.
Pathway A: The Experienced Technician
- Education: Technical Degree/Diploma in Industrial Automation, Electromechanics, Instrumentation, or equivalent.
- Experience: 5+ years of active field service, plant maintenance, or automated commissioning experience.
Pathway B: The Agile Junior Engineer
- Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.Sc. / B.Eng.) in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 2 to 4 years of post-grad experience (including heavy co-op/internship exposure) in robotics or machine design.
Nice-to-Have Differentiators
- Experience working within food production, packaging, or pharmaceutical environments under regulatory standards (FDA, HACCP, hygienic design).
- Experience with industrial refrigeration or thermal management systems.
Location & Travel
You live in Montreal, QC. You will work out of our core engineering facility, but will travel to and stay on-site in Florida for extended, designated blocks of time during deployment, testing, and major upgrade windows.
